Technology

StrategyEye is a fully hosted SaaS platform developed since 2007 and is well proven with a wide portfolio of commercial B2B intelligence products now live. The platform is highly flexible and a true end-to-end content solution – from content ingestion to indexing to editorial management and delivery via multiple white-label interface options.

The core technology uniquely allows our partners to easily create and load a hierarchical taxonomy of their industry landscape (categories, companies and types of corporate events they want to monitor) and switch on – the ease of the platform set-up methodology means our partners don’t need to worry about any technology aspect and can focus on their key strengths of creating proprietary editorial and marketing the new product.

Core Features

StrategyEye’s platform has been developed entirely in-house on open technology including PHP, Java, MySQL databases and includes significant deployments using Amazon cloud services.

Semantic Indexing Process

Each article (any XML document) ingested by StrategyEye is indexed against an array of taxonomies tailored to the industries we cover. These taxonomies typically include Categories, Companies, People but can include any other entities, such as WindFarms or Government Organisations.

Currently the platform monitors around 500,000 full news articles per day but the architecture allows for easy expansion of this base to many millions per day if required.

Entity Management approach

Optimizing tracking is at the heart of our system and our industry builder module allows for full ontology definitions around any company or category to allow full control over accuracy and relevancy of output intelligence.

For example, as a simple illustration to differentiate between similar named entities and a high-level category:

Company: [Apple Inc]: 'Apple' + 'Steve Jobs', 'iPod', 'iPad', 'Mac' etc
Company: [Apple Corp]: 'Apple' + 'Beatles', 'Ringo' etc
Category:[Social Networks]:   'Online Communities', 'Social Network', 'Social Media' etc

The approach also includes negatives to exclude any known rogue phrases or keywords.

We have a hierarchical approach to Entities which is highly relevant in B2B intelligence products and allows ‘stepped indexing’ to match a client’s exact requirements. For example, for  filtering content related to Sustainability and Banking or Retail, our tools allow us to simply combine 3 ontologies to give a highly filtered output stream:

[Sustainability] + [Retail] = news on sustainability in retail sector
[Sustainability] + [Banking] = news on sustainability in banking sector

Trigger Event Management

Each partner is able to define a series of Trigger Events for their area of focus. These are simply loaded into the system and are then automatically implemented in the indexing process. Example trigger events:

[M&A Deal]
[Venture Capital Deal]
[New Contract Win]
[People Movement]
[New Product Launch]

These Trigger Events can be used in two use cases:

1. Editorial Curation – to provide a highly filtered set of breaking events that the partner’s editorial team may want to create proprietary content around

2. Live Display – to show users in the front-end application realtime events as they break globally

The Trigger Events can also be used in combination with Entity filters to give powerful tailored streams to be used in front-end applications. For example:

[M&A] + [Chemicals] OR [Mining] = M&A stories in chemical or mining industries
[New Contract Wins] + [Defence] + [Asia] = new defence contract wins in Asia

Sources

StrategyEye currently monitors 500,000+ global news and blog articles per day via RSS and other sources – and can also now simply ingest any proprietary content feeds via XML directly from our partners.

We can also apply exactly the same indexing approach to any Twitter streams or individual accounts.

All our partner products have individual whitelist / blacklist capability, allows for very granular control over the preferred sources to include in the final end-user interface.

Regional Indexing

StrategyEye indexes all content against geotags for major cities and regions and can develop more granular regional tagging for specific areas as required (eg. Indian States or London Tube Stations).

APIs

StrategyEye can deliver secure XML feeds of any indexed content streams into 3rd party applications or services.
